What is family dentistry?
Family dentistry is a style of dentistry that caters to families. We can see adults, children, parents, grandparents, kids, siblings, spouses, friends—pretty much a general dental practice that is able to see any patient.
The benefits of family dentistry include having your whole family seen in one place as opposed to seeing multiple different dentists in different places. You're all seen under one roof, ensuring continuity of care. You'll be seeing the same doctors or hygienists who are very familiar with you and your family.
We've seen kids grow up with us—from when they started out as children to now being in high school and starting to drive. It's really nice to see the entire family visiting us and referring their relatives and friends to our office. That's basically what family dentistry means to me.
Do all dental offices offer family dentistry?
Not all dental offices offer family dentistry. Some offices are more focused on certain procedures. For example, specialists might only see patients who are in for a root canal and might not see that patient again unless they need another root canal. Some practices are focused solely on emergencies, seeing you only for an emergency and not bringing you back in for a cleaning.
In our practice, we have four hygienists currently. Dental hygiene is the heart of our practice. This means we can see you regularly for cleanings, maintenances, and to ensure we're keeping you healthy and on track.
What services fall under family dentistry?
Services that fall under family dentistry mainly include seeing the hygienist for your exam, cleaning, and x-rays. We sometimes have a baby come in for their initial screening with us. As they grow older, we see adults of all ages, from young adults to senior citizens. We can take care of almost everything needed within our office, without having to refer you to multiple places.
